Costing and pricing

Using our long-standing experience, we support you in the realisation of economically viable cost accounting and asset evaluation in compliance with regulatory requirements. We use this as a basis for calculating prices in the infrastructure sector that cover costs.

Cost accounting ...

We support you in the challenge to develop a cost accounting that meets both economic and regulatory requirements. Our approach is to develop concepts that take into consideration the structure, audit or further development of your costing practices.

Pricing and rating

We audit your pricing system to support you in ensuring cost-covering prices and tariffs. The objective for you, as an infrastructure operator, is to meet the existing regulatory requirements and at the same time break even, ensure that costs are paid by those instances that caused them and being able to operate in the market.

Asset evaluation...

As the majority of costs in infrastructure-based industries originate from assets, we recommend having detailed knowledge of the value of the existing infrastructures. We evaluate your assets in the context of the industry-specific regulatory specifications so that you can set prices at a cost-covering level.

... in an industry-specific context

We support electricity suppliers in questions relating to the regulatory costing of the Federal Electricity Commission (ElCom) and tariffs that comply with the Electricity Supply Ordinance (ESO).

We support gas suppliers with regard to compliance with the subsidiary industry standards and in ensuring that their pricing systems meet the requirements of customers, the market, companies and anti-trust law.

We support water and waste water companies with developing proper costing and auditing the tariffs to ensure that they cover costs. If you asset calculation is incomplete, we help you to evaluate your network. We further ensure that the conventional business standards are complied with.

We support district heating suppliers in determining their costs and pricing whilst accounting for the difficult factors of profitability, competition and the causer pays principle.

Some of our projects

Costing structure

Costing, regulation process, gas supply

Supporting a Swiss gas supplier with the development of its business costing structure

Assessment and rating of the water network

Rating, asset evaluation, water supply

Assessment of the water and waste water infrastructure of an energy supplier and determination of the costs for the water tariffs.

Investment decision – heat supply

Strategy, discounted cash flow, business plan, evaluation

Advising a Swiss energy supplier on an investment in a district heating project. Anticipating market and regulatory developments, incorporating these into the overall strategy, generating business plans as a decision-making basis.

Investment strategy – network operators

Regulation model, asset management, investment scenarios

Calculating the impact of different cost and investment scenarios for a Swiss public utility, taking into account alternative regulatory developments. Using the results for the utility’s future investment strategy.

Network assessment

Costing, asset evaluation, multi-utility companies

Assessment of the infrastructures of the electricity, gas and water media of a Swiss energy supplier.

Multi-utility companies

Energy suppliers, cost accounting, workshops

Analysing cost structures for Swiss multi-utility companies. Collecting and analysing data for gas, water and electricity networks, analysing cost allocation. Discussions in workshops as a basis for sharing experience among the companies.

Tariff calculation for energy suppliers

Asset valuation, cost model, Excel models

Helping Swiss energy suppliers calculate tariffs under StromVV (Swiss electricity supply ordinance) and in the context of the gas associations agreement. Arranging and applying costs to tariff elements using customer tools and own Excel models.

VSE/AES Datenpool for electricity distribution networks

Swiss electricity providers, sunshine regulation, basic supply, data pool

The VSE/AES Datenpool© project has created numerous performance indicator analyses for electricity distribution network operators in Switzerland. Thanks to the participation in this data pool, you can control and optimise your costs in the areas of energy network and basic supply. It makes it possible for you to determine and understand your own position compared with similar companies (e.g. also for the sunshine regulation) and to justify your situation to the Federal Electricity Commission (ElCom).
